None of my images are exactly about what they appear to be. These “landscapes” aren’t about a certain time and place. Instead, they evoke a time and place partly lost in our memories. In these imaginary landscapes, trees stand in for people, houses are overwhelmed by the earth below and the sky above, and ladders and fires are symbols of hope and cleansing.
Using strong color and subject matter with personal associations, I hope to achieve a reflexive response from the viewer. Rather than trigger a mental memory, I want to trigger a sensory memory with the specifics stripped away.
